Winemakers Reserve Vermentino, 2016
Taste Profile Where it's from
An award-winning wine, Berton Winemakers Reserve Vermentino offers drinkers a wonderful alternative to cool, crisp Clare/Eden Valley Riesling. More commonly found in Italy (and also known as Rolle in Provence, France) Vermentino is a wonderful white grape variety. Fresh, mineral and saline notes are evident, along with bright lemon and lime fruit characters. Vermentino will also age well. - Andy Howard MW
About the Wine
Berton Vineyards was set up in 1996 in the premium location of Eden Valley, South Australia. With further investment in the Riverina area in 2007, Berton are now established as a major producer. Berton uses its state of the art Yenda winery to process 20,000 tonnes every vintage, with a portfolio ranging from single vineyard wines to high-quality value for money offerings.
The grapes for this wine are soured from two areas: the Riverland and the Riverina. The vine age is varied, but all the vines are trained on a double wire cordon trellising system with drip irrigation.
This is quintessential Vermentino with delicate citrus and pear leading to a palate which is bursting with tropical fruit, lychee and kiwi fruits. Vibrant and refreshing with its zesty acidity, depth of flavour and a deliciously mouthwatering finish.
Goes well with
Vermentino is a great combination of citrus fruit, married with some stoned fruit softness.
Hints of bitterness and mineral notes make this a great combination with all types of seafood – try it with pan-fried scallops, salmon in a creamy sauce with dill, or simply grilled sole. Also a perfect match with all types of salad or a Moroccan tagine.
