San Silvestro Nas-Cëtta, 2016
Taste Profile Where it's from
Nascetta is variety confined to a small part of Italy and grown on the banks of a lake. Darker than usual for a white wine with a golden colour it is fresh on the nose with just a hint of barrel ageing. Aromatic, full flavoured and dry without too much acidity. The palate is creamy, broad and relatively long with a refreshing and stylish finish. - John Brownsdon MW
About the Wine
San Silvestro winery is located in Novello in the heart of the Barolo district. Started by Giovanni Sartirano in 1871 the business has since passed down through four generations. Today it is run by cousins Paolo and Guido Sartirano and San Silvestro has gradually expanded beyond the local market and their wines can be found around the world.
The Nascetta grapes are grown in a single hectare vineyard in Novello, in the Ghercina area, where this variety actually originated. This perfumed grape is relatively low yielding, but produces high quality grapes with concentrated flavours.
The vineyard sits on the banks of a small lake, which provides a unique microclimate in which this variety flourishes. The vines are manually harvested when the grapes have reached optimum maturity levels.
Goes well with
The vibrant citrus acidity and concentration on the palate makes this white a very good wine to match with many foods.
Relatively full-bodied, this Nascetta will stand up to all types of poultry, and has the weight to balance creamy sauces.
Try it with a rich mushroom risotto, or fresh pasta carbonara. It will also be a great combination with oven-baked salmon or sea-trout.
