Rioja Crianza Quinto Arrio, 2013
Taste Profile Where it's from
Navarrsotillo is a Rioja estate run by 3 brothers (Luís, Ramón and Andrés) which is Organic and produces wine that is both vegetarian and vegan. Traditional Rioja fans will appreciate the weight and ripeness here, with ageing in high quality oak giving the wine extra depth and spice to powerful dark red fruit flavours. Although a full bodied example, Quinto Arrio retains freshness and elegance. - Andy Howard
About the Wine
Navarrsotillo has been certified as an Organic producer since 1995 and, today, is run by three brothers - Luís, Ramón and Andrés.
Ramón is the winemaker here, and he is keen to show the quality of the grapes and the special terroir of Navarrsotillo without using excess amounts of oak. Rioja (whether red or white) is usually made from a blend of different grape varieties, often fermented and matured in oak. The ripeness of the grapes, combined with the oak character gives the wines of this classic area an unique style.
This Rioja Crianza has been carefully matured in wood, with the intention of adding to the complexity of the wine without overpowering the quality of the grapes. This style can be drunk on its own or with food, and although ready to drink, will age well for 12-18 months in the bottle.
Goes well with
A great accompaniment to roast beef, venison and lamb dishes. The smooth tannins and spicy oak characters will complement most poultry dishes, as well as standing up to strong, mature cheeses.
