Pitchfork Cabernet Merlot, 2015
Hay Shed Hill Wines
Taste Profile Where it's from
Owner Michael Kerrigan used to be winemaker at top Margaret River estates Howard Park and Madfish, before setting up Hay Shed Hill. Located in the premium area of Wilyabrup, Pitchfork is his entry level range but even here the focus on quality is intense. This Cabernet-Merlot blend is full of vibrant red berry fruit, has great purity and also shows hints of mint and chocolate on the mid-palate. - Andy Howard MW
About the Wine
Hay Shed Hill was established in the early 1970's on a dairy farm and the first wines were made in a hay shed overlooking the pastures, hence the name.
Today it is owned by a group of partners including the winemaker Michael Kerrigan, and is consistently rated amoungst the top wineries in Australia.
The Pitchfork Cabernet Merlot highlights the the strength of Margaret River in producing medium-bodied, flavoursome and elegant Cabernet blends. Ripe berry fruits and textural tannins showcase this classic wine style. The finesse and polish of this wine are a real surprise at this price point.
Goes well with
A very versatile wine which will accompany red meats, most poultry dishes or can be enjoyed on its own. This has the intensity to stand up to more robust red meats such as venison, a rich boeuf en daube, or chargrilled steak.
Will also be delicious with nearly all types of pasta dishes or a mushroom risotto.
