Winemaster's View

Muscadet has undergone a transformation in recent years, from thin, acidic and simple wines to a new-wave with much more depth, weight and interest. This example has masses of intense lemon character on the palate, allied to a mineral, saline finish. The grape variety is Melon, an acidic variety that matches perfectly with local fish dishes. Jérémie Huchet is one of the rising stars of the region. - Andy Howard MW

About the Wine

One of the Loire’s rising stars, Jérémie Huchet is a fourth generation winemaker making his mark in Muscadet.

Having taken over the family estate in 2001 he immediately set about purchasing some fantastic vineyards in the coastal Loire region. These now total 64 hectares and Jérémie is slowly converting everything to organic viniculture.

This wine is made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne (aka Muscadet) grapes sourced from vineyards with a strong oceanic influence. The grape withstands the cold well and is quite prolific and produces dry, crisp wines with a mineral feel and quite neutral-flavoured fruit character.

Goes well with

The classic match for wines from the Melon grape in the western Loire valley are all types of fish.

The saline/mineral character is a great compliment to richer, firm-textured fish such as monkfish, halibut and turbot.

Also delicious with lemon sole in a light sauce, or pan-fried sea bass. But perhaps its greatest use is as a partner for shellfish – oysters, mussels and langoustines.
