Winemaster's View
Falanghina is an ancient white variety, grown since Roman times. This exciting grape is at its best on the volcanic soils around Mount Vesuvius in the dramatic region of Campania. Like Fiano and Greco, Falanghina shows lots of complexity on the palate, notes of minerals (perhaps a volcanic flavour!), attractive floral character, ripe stoned fruit flavours, density and vibrant cleansing acidity. - Andy Howard MW
About the Wine
Fuedi di San Gregorio began in the mid 1980s with the aim of safeguarding local traditions and unlocking the potential of key indigenous grapes such as Fiano, Greco, Falanghina and Aglianico.
One of the main protagonists in the renaissance of Southern Italian wines, the company has carved out a reputation for making truly world-class wines in less than 30 years.
The beautiful Feudi di San Gregorio vineyards are spread out over lush and gentle hills in Sorbo Serpico, about an hour from Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The soils are uniquely volcanic, sandstone and marl, an environment where the Falanghina grape thrives.
Goes well with
Its crisp, mineral flavour and citrus fruits makes this ideal wine to accompany seafood and shellfish dishes.
Try it with a creamy seafood linguine, or razor clams in garlic and coriander. It will also stand up to tomato-heavy Neapolitan dishes such as gnocchi alla sorrentina.
