Jeremie Huchet is fast becoming one of the top young wine-producers in the Loire Valley. Although based in Muscadet, he has purchased a lot of top vineyards in other areas. This is a lovely blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay, both varieties found in the Loire but less common than Cabernet Franc and Cot. Chapeau Melon is a soft, smooth, early-drinking red with oodles of energy and refined tannins. - Andy Howard MW
About the Wine
One of the Loire’s rising stars, Jérémie Huchet is a fourth generation winemaker making his mark in Muscadet.
Having taken over the family estate in 2001 he immediately set about purchasing some fantastic vineyards in the coastal Loire region. These now total 64 hectares and Jérémie is slowly converting everything to organic viniculture.
Goes well with
With a hint of spice to match the bright, leafy red currant and blackberry fruit flavours, this is a great match with lighter meats such as roast pork or all types of poultry.
Try with summer salads or a cheese board with lots of goats cheeses from the Loire. With soft tannins, this is also a delicious wine to drink slightly chilled on a summer’s evening.
