Chapeau Melon, 2018
Taste Profile Where it's from
Young winemaker Jérémie Huchet is seen as one of the rising stars in the Loire valley. As well as respecting the traditions of famous wines like Muscadet, Huchet is pushing the boundaries with wines such as Chapeau Melon – a 50:50 blend of Melon de Bourgogne (the grape of Muscadet) and Sauvignon Blanc. This marries the floral elements of Sauvignon with crisp acidity of Melon – perfect summer wine. - Andy Howard MW
About the Wine
One of the Loire’s rising stars, Jérémie Huchet is a fourth generation winemaker making his mark in Muscadet.
Having taken over the family estate in 2001 he immediately set about purchasing some fantastic vineyards in the coastal Loire region. These now total 64 hectares and Jérémie is slowly converting everything to organic viniculture.
This wine is made from 50% Melon de Bourgogne (aka Muscadet) grapes and 50% Sauvignon Blanc grapes sourced from vineyards with a strong oceanic influence.
Goes well with
Crisp, fresh and with great weight on the palate, this is a wine for the summer months.
Serve chilled on its own, or partner with any type of fish or shellfish. A great partner with fresh langoustines, pan-fried scallops and moules marinières.
Perfect with dry textured goat’s cheese (chevre) – try it grilled on some French bread with a drizzle of honey - a classic of the eastern Loire.
