Ch Haut-Grelot Sauvignon Semillon, 2017
Taste Profile Where it's from
Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux is an under-rated, but increasingly high-quality, area lying on the Gironde estuary, opposite some of the great estates of Bordeaux. With vines planted on hilly sand/gravel soils, this blend is 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon. The former gives all the normal floral, herbal and citrus notes, whilst the Semillon adds more richness and complexity to the palate. - Andy Howard MW
About the Wine
Château Haut-Grelot was established in 1920 in the village of Les Grelots by the Bonneau family. Today the domaine is comprised of 58 hectares of vineyards and it is run by Celine and Julien, ho have been awarded the title of best young talent in Bordeaux.
The vineyards are made up of sandy gravel on hillsides bordering the Gironde estuary and sand-clay-silt on the hillsides further inland.
Blayes Côtes de Bordeaux benefits from an ideal microclimate where there so now is a high-level of sunshine and just enough rain. As a result of the reds are fruity and concentrated and are the whites of fresh, vibrant and delicate.
Goes well with
Citrus flavours are interwoven with herbal notes and some hints of liquorice, making this a complex and interesting wine that is best as an accompaniment to poultry dishes and white meats such as roast pork.
There is plenty of acidity to cut through any richness and creamy sauces. Also, a good match with all types of fish. The lemon and lime notes will be great with lobster and grilled prawns.
