Winemaster's View

Aglianico, an ancient Italian grape, has been described as ‘the Nebbiolo of the South’. Renowned for having very firm tannins, high acidity and the ability to age, many growers are now producing delicate, refined, perfumed examples. Teodosio comes from Basilicata in the far south, a beautiful, rugged area where Aglianico thrives. Red cherry & plum fruits dominate, with violet notes on the nose. - Andy Howard MW

About the Wine

Basilisco is Feudi di San Gregorio’s winery in Basilicata is located in the commune of Barile, in the very heart of the Aglianico del Vulture DOCG.

The 25 hectares of vineyard sits at altitude of 500m above see level and the vines are grown in volcanic soils, surrounded by olive trees and nourished by the warm Italian sunshine, conditions which are ideally suited to southern Italy’s flagship variety, Aglianico.

The vines are farmed organically under the watchful eye of Pierpaolo Sirch and have been certified organic from the 2015 vintage

Goes well with

Aglianico is a serious wine that will repay keeping, or serving with robust foods.

Try it with any type of grilled and roasted meats. The notes of violet on the nose will also work very well with game dishes – pheasant, partridge or venison.

This wine comes from Basilicata in the mountainous south of Italy – down here simply roasted lamb is a classic combination.
